considering they cant change the name anyway i dont see them adding this.
as for the manual name change for banned names they only change what the rest of the people see but the name of the character stays the same.
example
a banned name will still show up on the account when something is customized as *customized for banned name* but only the account holder will see the banned name.

That is BS, A-net can still find him, The name is tied to the account for 24 hours, try and delet a character, then create one new with the same name, will not work for 24 hours.
Plus I think the account system works on e-mail address, not char name.

wrong.
the name is held for 1 (one) hour not 24.
this is so someone else wont grab your name when you create a new character and want to keep the name for yourself.
it would be stupid if you had to wait 24 hours to make a new character using the same name.
after 1 hour it is free to the first person who types it in

signed: cause sometimes you make a char and leave out a letter by accident. I think name change should only be allowed withing a certain time after char creation. if u can /age then it shouldnt be hard to work out.
not signed: to many scammers and spammers. though the ignore command is nice and should cover them no matter the name.

It's a great idea and i agree with most people here, although it could do with a little more thought ie, atleast 24 hours per change
or something along the lines of a 7 or 30 days wait per change to minimise any so called "scams" that could arise through the idea.
Other than a few simple rules that should be put in place though im all for customisations, the more the better...

I say, allow each char's name to changed once, and ONLY ONCE. If you get bored with your char name, that's too bad. I've yet to see an online game where you can change it at all, let alone more than once. Basically, allowing one change would allow for you to change a name you hate.
As for the idea of a stylist NPC, which has been discussed before, I'm all for it, but I don't think faces should be changeable. I doubt there are any plastic surgeons in Tyria, Cantha, Elonia, or any other part of the GW world. Heck, there's not even plastic. Maybe not even surgeons.
In short, I think this is a good idea, but only for people who actually regret their char's name, or hairstyle (I hate my hairstyle, it has a bald spot when I run, and I really want a less bizzare name). This should not be something for people who are just fickle.
/signed, if it is done sensibly and reasonably, like what I have suggested above

I'd love to see this.
I named my warrior "Beowulf Wyrmslayer", only to find a distinct lack of wyrms, whilst the wurms were prolific and an absolute blast to fight, so one letter change would be ace

I personally think it's an OK idea...
Unfortunately, so was communism. Then real people got involved, and voila: one multinational mess.
The problem, I think, is that people will use this feature to reserve a bajillion names (since character name reservations currently persist on accounts), leaving the rest of us with completely bizarre things we had to invent new words to use. (Though I personally get a kick out of making up weird names out of actual words, like my monk Apoptotic Caspase. It's a biology term. Really.)
I think that this -could- work, however, if you had to release reservation on an existing character name in order to use it. That is: a list of all names your account has used is presented at the NPC/interface/whatever where you change a char's name, and you have to remove rights to a name before you can alter the one you have. It can be the one you had a minute ago, if you like, but one has to go, so other people can use it.
If it's done in a fashion like that, then I think it's cool.

i think that they could make it a 1 time change per character, in that way scammers woouldn't abuse of it, and ppl who really would like to change their char name will have to think it well before they use their chance
